Zoe Saldana (born June 19, 1978) was born to Asalia Saldana and Aridio Saldana in Passaic New Jersey. Her father is Dominican and her mother Puerto Rican. Her parents raised her in Queens, New York. Her family went to Dominican Republic at the age of 10 where they would spend the next seven year. Zoe found a great interest in performing dances while being abroad. She started training with the ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy to study ballet and a variety of other styles of dance. Apart from offering a way to express creatively the energetic and passionate youngster the dance lessons she received proved as a crucial factor to her first professional acting career. At age 17, Zoe and her family relocated in her home in the United States where her love for dance followed and an enthusiasm for theater performances grew greater.
